I’m not the spoiled rich girl I used to be. And if my new business succeeds, I’ll finally be able to prove it.
Too bad my first job is planning a wedding…in my sworn enemy’s barn.
There was a time when I cared about Luke Durham with my whole heart. But that died when he assumed the worst of me.
Now, we’re stuck working together. Failure? Not an option.
But everything would be so much easier if I could forget how good it felt to be loved by Luke instead of hated...
Luke
Running my farm and being a single dad doesn’t leave me much time for grudges.
But for Magnolia James, I might make an exception.
I lost so much because of her. Even my heart. Forgiveness? Not possible.
So, I’ll work with her. But I will keep my mind—and my hands—off her.
Or so I keep telling myself…

I think this is one of my favourite books in the series. It’s a cozy small town romance full of warmth and humour, slow-burn tension, secrets revealed, and, of course, a couple of appearances by our favourite llama, Esmerelda. This is book 5 of the Single Dads of Dragonfly Lake series, but can be read as a standalone.
Luke and Magnolia had a budding romance in high school – 17 years ago – that suddenly turned sour, and now they can’t stand each other. But they’re forced to put their animosity aside and work together for the sake of their separate new businesses. Imagine the tension!
Working closely together forces them to confront what tore them apart as teens and realise those old feelings are still there. Even though they start to clear the air around 20% of the way through, the journey to rebuilding trust, admitting their feelings, and deciding to try again is slow — which, I thought, made the relationship feel all the more authentic. The tension was palpable, the chemistry sizzling, we had some conflicts putting road blocks in the way, and it made the slow-burn feel so real — I was hooked.
I loved the cosy small town setting of this story. We get to revisit our favourite characters from previous books and experience the strong sense of community you usually find in small town romance. Magnolia may have grown up in a cold, loveless home, but being disowned led her to find the love she deserved in her new found family. From older residents like Dotty and her knitting group, to Harper and her circle of friends, to Luke’s father and daughter who welcomed her with open arms – it was so heartwarming to witness. I also enjoyed the subplot involving her family secrets and her mother’s reappearance. The way that storyline played out was so satisfying.
If you love spicy slow-burn holiday romances in a charming small-town setting, heartfelt family moments, and lots of laughs, you should definitely check out this book.
Single Wish is single dad Luke and wedding planner Magnolia’s enemies to lovers story set in the small town of Dragonfly Lake. It’s book five in the Single Dads of Dragonfly Lake and it was a bittersweet journey because this is the final single dad to find love. Luke and Magnolia were friends when they were younger but a misunderstanding left them as enemies. Fast forward to today and their mutual friends need them to work together on their wedding so will this make or break them…….. Ryan West and Erin Mallon did a great job bringing the characters and their story to life. They were spot on with the passion, the banter and the drama plus they were very easy to listen too. This is a well written, entertaining story that I loved. I fell hard and fast for Luke and my heart broke for Magnolia and what she went through with her estranged family but what took this story to another level was watching this couple work through their differences and open up their hearts to a relationship they thought they would never have.
4.5 Stars
Loved Luke and Magnolia and how great they are to and for each other!
Single Wish, the fifth book in Amy Knupp’s Single Dads of Dragonfly Lake series, is an enemies-to-lovers romance with emotional depth and characters who have a palpable, steamy chemistry.
Magnolia and Luke both have fears to deal with and family issues that need to be healed. They have struggled, each in their own way, and find strength to move forward to build a future together.
Knupp has developed a vibrant backdrop in Dragonfly Lake, filled with well-developed, charming characters. She brings us up-to-date with the “Single Dads” from the previous books in the series and their families. You will get a kick out of Dotty and the ladies who have been Magnolia’s chosen family, especially the “Karma Fizz!”
While the book reads well on its own, treat yourself to the rest of the series for more great reading!
How do you erase years of distrust and dislike? When a missing ring gets Luke's mother fired from her job at Magnolia's parent's house, Luke and Magnolia's clandestine relationship is destroyed. Luke believes that Magnolia accused his mom and that she really is the mean, rich girl that everyone thinks she is and not the person he was slowly getting to know beneath that tough exterior. Now, Magnolia who was thrown out and cut off by her father after she refused to agree to an arranged marriage, is running an event planning business and has just been hired by her best friend Pressley to plan her wedding. The drawback, it is going to be held in the barn on Luke's farm in just over eleven weeks, even though the barn has not been fitted out to hold weddings and judging by the work needed, Luke and Magnolia are going to be working together very closely to get everything ready. As Luke and Magnolia start their planning sessions, the atmosphere is tense, but the more time they spend together, the more they realize that the connection is still there and they chemistry still sizzles. The years of neglect and deception have taken their toll on Magnolia, and as she makes her way in the world, she knows that she can never again allow herself to be controlled by others in her life and this leads to serious trust issues that color all of her relationships. When her estranged mother comes back with life altering information that can finally set Magnolia free, the weight she has been carrying around lifts. As the secrets unfurl, and Magnolia's life unravels, she becomes stronger and happier in her new reality. In the intervening years, Luke has become a single father to Addie, and adorable little girl whose Christmas wish is for her daddy to get married. With his life as a farmer, his daughter, an ailing father and refurbishing the barn, Luke is stretched thin and the prospect of working with Magnolia, whom he feels betrayed by, is just too overwhelming. With spending so much time together, their chemistry reignites and soon Luke and Magnolia embark on a relationship that blossoms into so much more. But with one kind gesture, Luke ignites all of Magnolia's insecurities and that threatens to tear everything apart. This is a beautifully written story of love, forgiveness, distrust, and friendship. Magnolia is so strong and determined and desperately needs to succeed on her own, and this comes across so eloquently in this book. Luke is deliciously flawed; he wants to show his father that he can make a success of the farm after he is forced to retire and combine that with being a single father means he never feels like he is good enough. This book is a joy! Ms. Knupp weaves an uplifting tale that has wonderful character development and fun storylines. A great addition to the Dragonfly Lake series.
