Too damaged for love?

Sam is burnt out as an EMT and trying to survive until he leaves town to be one a SCUBA instructor for a cruise line, Mercedes loves her Gram and her work, but doesn't have time for anything else, Gemma is 17, pregnant and hoping that her half brother will finally be the one family member she can trust to be there. Mercedes' sister Charlie shows up unannounced claiming she's moving home for good and wants to help care for their Gram. Gemma and Sam's father turns up claiming, "he didn't know". Lots of hurt feelings and accusations. Her best friend urges Mercedes to use the time her sister is in town to at least have a fling. Since Sam is leaving anyway Mercedes figures she won't get too attached knowing it has a definite end date; and when her sister leaves, because she always does it won't destroy another relationship.
No cliff hanger, HEA for everyone, hot firefighters and EMTs, teaser for next story at end.

Amy Knupp serves up another winner with the story of two people who are locked into their lives because they cannot move forward. Scott and Mercedes are like two sides of the same coin, only they can see it in each other but not in themselves. Scott, whose father left his family to start another, is paralyzed by anger and resentment of what was previously a happy family life. Mercedes, who gives to everyone except herself, holds a grudge against her sister when she fled their broken family. Come along with these two fractured souls as they come to a better understanding of themselves and surge toward each other with passion and commitment. Truly a delicious read!
